Farmer killed in modified tricycle crash in Ilocos Norte

CAMP JUAN, Ilocos Norte – A 56-year-old farmer died and his two companions were injured after the modified tricycle or “kurong-kurong” they were riding in figured in an accident on the national highway in Barangay Santiago, Solsona, this province, on Friday, June 16. Police identified the fatality as Anacleto Ramos of Barangay Suyo, Dingras, Ilocos Norte. Investigation disclosed that the driver, Romnick Andres, 32, of Barangay San Juan, Solsona, evaded a vehicle turning left in the middle of the road but lost control of the tricycle and crashed. Andres, Ramos, and co-passenger Orlando Santa Monica, 61, also a farmer and resident of Barangay Suyo, Dingras, sustained injuries and were brought to the nearest hospital where Ramos was declared dead due to serious head injuries.
