Save Paranaque River campaign gets boost
The Paranaque City government together with non-government organizations joined hands for the launching of the “Save Parañaque River Barangay Linis-Ilog Volunteer (B-LIV) Project.”
The project is in line with the city government’s commitment to prevent further despoliation of the historic Parañaque River as well as to protect the environment and make significant contributions to the worldwide efforts to stop global warming.
The Parañaque Rotary community, Save the Parañaque River Foundation and Parañaque Association of Barangay Councils are the partners of the local government in the cleaning and improvement of the Paranaque River.
Under the memorandum of agreement, community volunteers aboard bamboo rafts will be deployed to collect floating garbage along the Parañaque River on a daily basis. Other teams will clean creeks in their barangays for good reason: To destroy mosquito and rat breeding sites, prevent flooding, and scoop up litter on the surface before they reach the river.
The Rotary community will spearhead an advocacy campaign on environmental care by way of lectures intended principally for families that have settled along the coastline, riverbanks and creek sides. It will also provide funds to defray the cost of allowances of barangay volunteers who will be engaged in the river and creek clean-up sorties.
