Spring Films promises new season in Philippine cinema
A new movie outfit called Spring Films has promised to come up with exciting and meaningful commercial films as it launches a new season in Philippine Cinema. The company’s initial venture, “Kimmy Dora,” starring Eugene Domingo in her first solo lead role, will hit the big screen on Sept. 2.
Spring Films is composed of people who share the same vision for local cinema: actor Piolo Pascual, filmmaker Joyce Bernal, cinematographer Shayne Sarte and businessman and talent manager Erickson Raymundo. Together, they pooled their talents, knowhow and depth of experience in the industry to create Spring Films and produce movies that are fresh and out-of-the-box. “Kimmy Dora” marks the outfit’s daring move to offer deserving artists a venue to advance their careers in the big screen with equally promising materials.
Piolo said, during a recent press conference at Max’s Rest. Roces, that the idea of coming up with Spring Films was an off-shoot of his and Bb. Bernal’s “inspired dream” of giving Eugene Domingo her much-deserved break as a solo star in the big screen. Both were impressed by the comedienne’s acting prowess in Bb. Bernal’s 2007 film “Pa’no Kita Iibigin,” where Eugene played one of her famous character roles alongside Piolo Pascual and Regine Velasquez.
It took them a year to look for the right project for Eugene Domingo’s starring movie. Their search eventually ended with “Kimmy Dora,” which they deemed the right material for the comedienne.
“Kimmy Dora” is a creation of writer-director Chris Martinez (“100”).
“Kimmy Dora” tells the wacky tale of twin sisters Kimmy and Dora Go Hong Hae who are in conflict to win a father’s attention, one man’s love, and a multi-billion dollar business empire. The team behind Spring Films thought the juggling act in playing the two lead characters would be the perfect challenge for Eugene to prove herself deserving of a starring role.
When asked if she felt any pressure since the movie is her first starring role, Eugene said “hindi naman ako nape-pressure kasi maraming sumusuporta, maraming tumutulong, di ba nga sabi ko I don’t feel any pressure right now, maybe tomorrow (laughs), maybe later, saka marami naman talaga sumusuporta. Damang-dama ko naman ang suporta ng tao – mula sa director, sa producer na si Papa Piolo, sa leading man na si Mr. Dingdong Dantes, at sa lahat ng mga artista bale nakikihalo sa amin. Damang-dama ko ang suporta nila, parang gusto lang naman nilang makasama sa pelikulang masaya…”
Also in the cast of “Kimmy Dora” are Zanjoe Marudo, Miriam Quiambao, Ariel Ureta, Gabby Eigenmann, Baron Geisler and many others.

On 1st day of release, Kuya Daniel’s album turns gold
It was a phenomenal feat, Daniel Razon’s second album entitled “Isang Araw Lang” acquiring gold status on its first day of release. This was actually his goal – to make the album a Gold Record awardee in a day’s time, thus the title, “Isang Araw Lang.” The song was composed by Krist Melecio.
This is a follow-up to Daniel’s maiden album “In My Eyes” which went platinum.
Also included in the album are: “Hold On,” “So Many Questions,” “Your Love,” “Habang May Buhay,” “With A Smile,” “Wag Na Lang Kaya,” “I’ll Never Go,” “Forevermore,” “Tag-Ulan,” “Hold-On” and the carrier single “Isang Araw Lang.” Like in his first album, Razon said the proceeds will fund his most recent projects like the “Libreng Edukasyon” (Free Education) and the various public service activities of the Kamanggagawa Foundation.
For Kuya Daniel, “Isang Araw Lang” is more than just a song but a call for selfless volunteerism. “Walk your talk,” is one of Kuya Daniel’s principles. The message of the song is to motivate people to do good even for just one day in a year. As explained by Kuya Daniel, there are 365 days in a year, 30 days in a month, 7 days in a week and they are never complete without a day.
As the host of public-service morning program, “Good Morning, Kuya!” on UNTV 37 and known popularly as “Mr. Public Service,” Kuya Daniel has been spearheading many projects for the welfare of indigent citizens. These projects include the following: “Clinic ni Kuya,” which gives free medical and dental checkups, consultations with optometrists, opthalmologists, and obstetricians/gynecologists, along with free medicine and laboratory tests daily; the “Libreng Sakay sa Bus” (Free Bus Ride); the Libreng Sakay sa MRT (Free MRT Rides for Senior Citizens); the “Munting Pangarap” (Small Dream), a weekly wish-fulfilling service to help the less-privileged; the “Law Center ni Kuya,” in which a group of lawyers provide free legal consultations; “Job Fair ni Kuya,” a venue for job seekers; and the free “Transient Home,” which is a joint projects with Bro. Eli Soriano, the host of the program Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path). A recent project is the launching of a free college program at the La Verdad Christian College in Metro Manila which will provide scholarships to deserving youth.
With all his visible endeavors, it is apparent that the man really walks his talk. Asked why his campaign is called “Just One Day,” he simply answers, I’ll leave that for you to answer… in UNTV, we do it every day.”
“Isang Araw Lang” the album is a production of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International Inc. (BMPI). It is now available at selected retail outlets in Metro Manila.
