MMDA official's NGO, Indian bizman distribute 300 food packs to underprivileged residents in Pasig

By Jel Santos  Three hundred food packs containing rice, canned goods, and noodles were recently distributed by the non-government organization (NGO) of a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official, and an Indian businessman to underprevileged residents in a barangay in Pasig City. "In behalf of my ka-barangays, I would like to thank Asec. Celine Pialago for choosing our barangay. This is very big help, especially now that we are facing the COVID-19 pandemic," he said in Filipino. "I would also like to express my gratitude to all the donors of Malasakit Movement," the chairman added. The MMDA spokesperson said they strictly implemented social distancing during the distribution, saying the food packs were given by batch. The food packs each contain five kilos of rice, cans of corned beef, and packs of instant noodles. Pialago and her friend, Indian businessman Kumar, led the distribution of the relief goods to 300 underprivileged residents of Barangay Santolan on Thursday. "I would like to thank Mr. James Kumar for being part of the Malasakit Movement, and our other donors," she said. "We will as many people that we could. This is the commitment of our movement." According to her, many well-meaning people have been contacting her NGO asking how to donate goods. "We've been receiving many queries from generous people who want to help and donate to the Malasakit Movement. We are very grateful to them," she said. "If they want to reach out to us, they may call or text the Malasakit Movement at 09270243403," she said. Pialago said that "Bayanihan" spirit is very alive during the community quarantine. "Let us work together. Let's do Bayahihan together by reaching out to our thriving kababayans economically effected during these trying times," she said.
