NBI assures SC swift clearance processing, access to records, documents, shared data

NBI officials courtesy call on SC justices

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has assured the Supreme Court (SC) of swift processing of clearances for applicants to judicial posts and access to records, documents and shared data.

The assurance was relayed by NBI Senior Deputy Director and Officer-in-Charge Eric B. Distor during the courtesy call last May 18 by senior NBI officials on SC justices led by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo.

During the visit, Gesmundo thanked the NBI officials for their assistance in the crafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 11691, the Judiciary Marshals Act.

RA 11691 will provide security, safety, and protection to members, officials, personnel, and property of all courts in the country. It will also provide security and protection to the integrity of proceedings in all courts.

Chief Justice Gesmundo had earlier said that “the creation of RA 11691 will not only secure, protect, and safeguard the Judiciary but will also boost the morale of its members, officials, and personnel at this time when there is the concern of the threats to judges and killings of lawyers.”

Gesmundo was with Associate Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez during the courtesy call. Distor was with NBI Deputy Director Medardo G. De Lemos.

Other representatives of the NBI present were Assistant Directors Ferdinand M. Lavin, Jose Justo S. Yap, and Roel Bolivar; Atty. Yehlen C. Agus; Agent Geraldo P. De Luna; Atty. Christopher N. Godinez; and Ms. Ronalyn Bucao.

Also present was SC’s Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Technology Officer Atty. Jed Sherwin G. Uy.
