St. Scho upsets UA&P; 3 still unbeaten

St. Scholastica's College provided the lone upset on Sunday when it downed previously undefeated University of Asia and the Pacific, 19-25, 30-28, 25-17, 25-19, in the 40th WNCAA tournament at the RTU gym.

The win gave the Scions a 2-2 mark in Senior B, half a game behind the Dragons who fell to second place at 2-1. Centro Escolar University overcame Philippine Women's University, 25-17, 25-22, 18-25 23-25, 18-16, to keep the group lead at 3-0.

Lyceum, College of St. Benilde and UA&P, meanwhile, streaked to their league-best 4-0 records in basketball at the St. Scholastica's gym while Lyceum and RTU tote similar slates in volleyball.

Lyceum, seeking a fourth straight crown, upended St. Scholastica, 69-61, while College of St. Benilde downed Rizal Technological University, 47-40, to share the Senior A lead.

UA&P remains on top of Senior B after stopping Emilio Aguinaldo College, 60-53. Aurora Biolena and Syl Kristine Alcantara paced UA&P with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

PWU nipped CEU, 44-42, for its first win in three starts in Senior A and Miriam College dealt San Beda College Alabang a third straight loss, 51-42,to improve to a second-best 2-1 in Senior B.

The 40th WNCAA is being supported by Monster Radio RX 93.1, Goody, IBC 13, Manila Bulletin, Sports Digest, Muscle Tape, Burlington Biofresh, MJC Press, and Macgraphics Carranz.

Lyceum dominated EAC, 25-5, 25-11, 25-10, and RTU downed Miriam, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20, to keep the Senior A top spot.

San Beda also improved its Senior A mark to 2-2 when its conquered La Consolacion College Manila, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-22, as the latter slumped to a 0-4 slate.
