Banish the Frizz

Are you tired of having your hair rebonded, and having it look unnaturally flat?  Do you have damaged hair, and in dire need of a super nourishing treatment? Is your hair frizzy and unmanageable, and you wish to cut down its volume?  If you answered “yes” to any of these, then you’re in for a treat!

Basement Salon, courtesy of owner Fritz Webb, brought in the latest hair treatment from Europe and the US known as the Permanent Blow Dry. In other parts of the world, this hair treatment is known as the Brazilian Keratin Treatment, and has its roots in Brazil some 10 years ago. It’s a revolutionary hair processing treatment that works on making your hair manageable, smooth, shiny, and healthy by wrapping open hair cuticles (which are normally found in damaged, dry and chemically-treated hair) with keratin. Keratin is the natural protein compound that nourishes each of our strands, and it is added and sealed into the cuticles with the help of a multiple-pass, 450-degree, flat-ironing technique.

In simple layman terms, it nourishes your damaged locks and makes your hair silky soft. Imagine less prep time in the morning, most especially when you’re traveling. It’s like waking up with perfectly good hair everyday! Permanent Blow Dry (PBD) can give you just that. But unlike its counterparts such as relaxing and rebonding, PBD only lasts for about four months for chemically-treated hair, and two months for virgin hair. How so?  Because virgin hair does not have open cuticles for the keratin to wrap itself around it, while chemically-treated ones have. In fact, Basement Salon artistic director Manfred Spiering adds that PBD looks better on colored hair since it seals in the color. Webb is even more excited to see the results in abused hair, not just on colored ones, since “the more damaged your hair is, the better the results will be.”

The good news to this semi-permanent hair treatment is that you don’t have to worry about the awkward frizzy hair re-growth, and you won’t be in a rush to get your hair retouched since your PDBed hair will go back to its normal state in time to blend in with your re-growth.  Even better news is that you can keep on getting PBD, and as often as you want, since it doesn’t damage your hair, but makes it even healthier than ever before.

Lastly, unlike other straightening treatments, you can do anything with your hair after the processing—curl it, tuck your hair behind your ear, put on a headband, even tie your hair into a pony!

Although the solution used in this treatment is believed not to contain formaldehyde that can affect both the lungs and the eyes, Webb has  taken necessary safety precautions for both salon clients and staffers by wearing protective gear during the treatment.
