Suspect in celebrated Barrameda murder yields
Angono, Rizal - The principal suspect in the brutal slaying of Ruby Rose Barrameda, lawyer Manuel Jimenez Jr., surrendered to the Angono police Friday afternoon after a court in Caloocan City issued a warrant for his arrest.
The warrant for murder was released Friday afternoon by Judge Hector Almeyda of the Caloocan Regional Trial Court Branch 170.
Jimenez was accompanied by his wife, Jocelyn Merced, when he showed up at the police headquarters in Angono at a round 2 p.m. He was immediately brought to the Angono Medics Hospital for a check up before he is detained.
The new chief of police of Angono, Superintendent Romel Estulano, accompanied Jimenez to the hospital. As of press time, they have yet to return to the police station.
Officer on case SPO1 Edgar Fetalvero said Jimenez went to the house of his wife in San Nieves Street, Barangay San Isidro in Angono from BF Homes in Paranaque where he learned that a warrant will be released for his arrest Friday.
Another source said the lawyer got information from the court that the warrant will be served anytime Friday, and got hold of a copy through fax. He brought a copy of the warrant when he turned up at the police station.
The surrender was made barely hours after a change of command at the Angono police, wherein Estulano replaced Supt. Hermogenes Tantoco who was transferred to the PNP provincial headquarters.
The Department of Justice recently said it would file murder charges against six men linked to the killing of Ruby Rose including her father-in-law, Manuel Jimenez Jr.
The investigating panel recommended the dismissal of the complaint against her husband, Manuel Jimenez III, from whom Ruby Rose was estranged. Reports said that prior to the disapperance of Ruby Rose, the couple was engaged in a custody battle for their children.
Ruby Rose was killed, her body placed in a cement-sealed steel container which was thrown to the sea off the Navotas Fish Port where the Jimenezes own property. The body would never have been found until a man claiming to be an accomplice told authorities of the exact location of the body.
