Operatives from the Pasig City Police Station and Barangay Security Force arrested a carnapper in Barangay Pinagbuhatan on Saturday, May 6.
Pasig Police Chief Col. Celerino Sacro identified the suspect as “Jade,” 23.
According to the police investigation, the victim filed a report with the Pinagbuhatan Police Sub-Station (SS5), stating that his e-bike, which he uses as his service vehicle, was stolen at around 4 a.m. in his home.
The victim said that his neighbor informed him of the theft and that the suspect was allegedly accosted by bystanders in the area.
Police immediately responded to the complaint and arrested the suspect along Narra Street, Cristina Homes, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.
The e-bike of the victim was recovered from the suspect.
By checking the CCTV footage, the police and the Barangay Security Force, discovered that Jade was the same man seen in a previous carnapping incident involving a Honda Click motorcycle last May 4 on S. Reyes St., Villa Miguela, Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
Upon interrogation, Jade refused to disclose the identity of his cohort, who police identified as “Mac-Mac,” as well as the exact location of the stolen motorcycle in Barangay Napindan, Taguig City.
A follow-up operation was conducted where Mac-Mac was seen driving the stolen Honda Click. However, he alighted from the motorcycle and ran down a dark alley, eluding arrest.
The vehicle was recovered and confirmed to have the same engine number and chassis of the stolen motorcycle.
Jade is in the custody of the Pasig police. Mac-Mac is still being pursued by authorities.
The suspect is facing charges of theft (Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code), and for violation of Republic Act No. 10883 or the “New Anti-Carnapping Law of 2016.”
