Newly-crowned World Boxing Organization (WBO) super-flyweight king Marvin Sonsona has returned to the country, while his victim Jose Lopez is back in Puerto Rico, still wondering what hit him last Friday during their torrid 12-round bout in Canada.

Sonsona arrived in Manila on Monday morning joined by members of his team – manager Dr. Rajan Yraola, trainers Jun Agrabio and Nonito Donaire Sr., and promoter Sammy Gello-ani – oozing with pride following Sonsona’s masterful unanimous decision win over the favored Lopez.

The 19-year-old Sonsona now takes time out to relish the victory with his family members as his next fight will not happen until November 21, also at the very same ring at Casino Rama in Ontario province where he stamped his class against Lopez.

“This fight was really for my parents,” said the lanky native of General Santos City. “We really don’t have money.”

Yraola politely declined to say how much Sonsona earned but said “for a challenger, it was good enough.” — Nick Giongco
