Ogie Alcasid suffers freak accident on "SOP"

Actor-singer Ogie Alcasid is “OK already” after figuring in a freak accident on Sept. 6 on the set of GMA-7’s Sunday noontime musical program “SOP” which he co-hosts with, among others, his girlfriend Regine Velasquez who administered first aid to him.

This is according to Ogie’s manager, Leo Dominguez, when sought for reaction on the matter by Manila Bulletin Online on Sept. 7.

“In fact, he is taping later for ‘Bubble Gang.’ He went to the doctor this morning,” said Domiguez, referring to Channel 7’s long-running gag show where Ogie is a primary mover.

Domiguez recalled that while “SOP” was airing live on Sept. 6, one of the members of the Sexbomb dancers accidentally hit Ogie who was then holding a microphone which in turn hit his face. The impact caused Ogie's face to bleed.

“He couldn’t go on [performing on the show] because he was in pain,” Dominguez pointed out.

He added: “Regine got worried and prepared ice packs and gave meds to Ogie.”

Sexbomb dancer Danica N. Gulapa said that she had wanted to personally apologize to Ogie right after the accident.

“Pero nakaalis na po s’ya,” Gulapa told Manila Bulletin in an interview on Sept. 7.

She narrated that she and the rest of the Sexbomb Dancers were performing their spot number when she suddenly felt that her left hand hit something. When she turned around, she saw Ogie who was then hastily leaving the rear end of the stage where she was positioned.

“Nag-sorry po ako kaagad pero natakot din po ako na lumapit sa kanya. Sinabihan naman po ako [ng ‘SOP’ staff] na hindi naman daw po s’ya nagalit kasi aksidente naman po ang nangyari,” she said.

“Hindi ko rin po inakala na may tao sa likod ko,” she reasoned. “Wala rin pong nagsabi sa akin na may dumadaan doon [sa part ng stage].”

Her message to Ogie: “Kuya, sorry po. Hind ko po akalain na mangyayari ‘yun. Gusto ko po sana kayong puntahan at personal na mag-sorry pero nakaalis na daw po kayo.”

“SOP” viewers likewise weren’t able to see of Ogie that day as he already went home, leaving Regine and the rest of the team, including Janno Gibbs, to carry on without him until the show ended.

Regine wasn’t able to accompany Ogie to the doctor on Sept. 7 as she also had her work to attend to, said Dominguez.

Aside from “SOP,” Ogie and Regine host the reality singing contest, “Celebrity Duets 3” every Saturday.

Ogie is also busy promoting his new movie “Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie,” which is a spin-off of his and Michael V’s hit routine on “Bubble Gang.”
