Burly big man Shawn Umali is off on a new journey as he opted to bid farewell to the Lyceum Pirates in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Umali, 23, who bannered the Intramuros-based squad alongside Enoch Valdez and JM Bravo, expressed his gratitude to the Lyceum community, who gave him an opportunity to grow and showcase his skills.
“From the moment I entered LPU, I have been welcomed with open arms and genuine warmth. The support and encouragement from each one of you have made my journey here a memorable one,” Umali posted on Facebook on Friday, Feb. 2.
“To the Laurel’s and Lopez Family, Boss Andro, RPL, Ma’am Sarah, Boss Alex, thank you for giving me an opportunity to study and play for the school. Thank you for your unwavering support to our team. To the coaches, thank you for believing in my potential,” he added.
In Season 99, the Pirates finished second place in the eliminations and toted a 13-5 win-loss card. The squad, however, squandered a twice-to-beat advantage and yielded to the eventual champions San Beda Red Lions.
The Tondo native averaged 10 points, six rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game on top of 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals.
