Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez extended financial assistance to the family of an elderly street sweeper who was ran over and abandoned by the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) last Sept. 24.
Olivarez visited the elderly street sweeper at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Wednesday, Sept. 28, and personally handed over to her family the financial assistance.
Doreen Bacus, 63, is an employee of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and assigned as a street sweeper.
During Olivarez's visit to the PGH, he was informed by one of the children, Mikko, that the elderly street sweeper is now slowly recovering from the injuries she suffered during the accident.
Bacus was ran over by an SUV driven by Raymond Zaparain, 42, a resident of Las Piñas City.
The police filed charges against Zaparain for reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injury.
Zaparain was apprehended after he was identified through a CCTV footage, according to city police chief Col. Renato Ocampo.
The video that went viral on social media showed the victim collecting trash at the corner of Elizalde and Aguirre Avenues in Barangay BF Homes when she was hit by a white Mitsubishi Pajero around 7:30 a.m.
The family of Bacus thanked Olivarez for the financial assistance extended to them.
