The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has set a nationwide campaign to promote human rights and discuss the implications of the accord for the establishment of the ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR).

CHR Chairman Leila M. de Lima said the campaign kicked off Friday at the University of the Philippines-Cebu (UP Cebu), with visits scheduled in other universities for the September-December period.

The agency is collaborating with the Philippine Working Group for the ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism (PWG) in the road show dubbed “Human Rights: Asan na yan sa ASEAN?”

“ASEAN recently adopted the Terms of Reference (ToR) that establishes the AICHR. There is therefore a need to raise the public’s awareness, especially those from the academe, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government offices, and media, of ASEAN and its role in promoting and protecting the human rights of the peoples in the region including its impact in the Philippine context,” De Lima said.(Marvyn N.
