Siemens reaffirms commitment to RP’s energy and health sectors
Siemens Inc., Philippines, the local unit of a global electrical engineering conglomerate recently reaffirmed its continuing commitment in promoting Philippine progress by providing innovative and cutting-edge solutions for the country’s energy, industry and healthcare sectors.
Siemens products and solutions have been benefitting 190 countries worldwide since the company was established in 1847. In the Philippines, Siemens has been instrumental in helping overcome developmental challenges and achieve national progress since 1910. For nearly a hundred years, the German-headquartered technology solutions partner has been equipping its clients in the local
energy, industry, and healthcare markets to address key developmental issues such as the availability of electricity and clean water, early detection and prevention of disease, and optimizing production processes in various industries.
“Our one-hundred year old partnership with the Philippines is something that we value because we share a rich history of bringing innovation and progress to the lives of the Filipino people. Siemens has been witness to several dramatic changes in the business and political environment of the Philippines and we are committed to continue playing the role of technological solutions provider to the Philippines’ energy, industry, and healthcare sectors through changing times,” said Adrian Wood, President and CEO, Siemens Inc. (Philippines).
Some of the notable contributions of Siemens in the Philippines include adequate and reliable power supply to major industries and residential communities in the country through its partnership with Meralco, the biggest utility distributor in the country. Siemens technology has also played a significant part in providing fresh water supplies to key areas of the country with its advanced water management technologies. Siemens operates in partnership with water concessionaires such as Maynilad Water Services and Manila Waters, in automating water treatment plants and installing treatment processes that address the water needs of industrial and residential areas.
Siemens is likewise dedicated to quality patient care as a provider of integrated medical solutions such as radiology equipment, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, computed tomography (CT), and ultrasound equipment, to the country’s leading hospitals and medical institutions.
Several years back, the company ventured into the telecommunications industry as a mobile phone manufacturer where the brand gained popularity. Following a major restructuring exercise that began in 2004, Siemens divested from the communications business to concentrate on providing cutting-edge solutions to three key sectors in line with the head quarter’s global strategy.
“Siemens recently underwent a global restructuring exercise that allowed us to streamline our competencies into three business units - Energy, Industry and Healthcare. Siemens is currently focusing on providing solutions to these sectors because these are the three major areas vital to the advancement of modern society,” Wood reported.
Apart from focusing on these three growth areas, Siemens is also a global player in the BPO field. In 2006, Siemens IT Solutions and Services (SIS) established operations in the Philippines to handle both Siemens and external customer IT support requirements. With an employee base of 1000, SIS’ service desk programs extend offshore support to more than 180 countries. Siemens intends to support the growth of the Philippine BPO industry by expanding its service desk operations and providing best in class metrics to its clientele.
Now that the Philippines is facing more complex challenges including a rapidly growing population, urbanization, lack of potable water supply and dwindling energy reserves, Siemens renews its commitment to the Philippines’ continuous advancement by providing technological solutions that address some of the country’s developmental challenges.
“As the Philippines transforms into a globally competitive nation, Siemens is committed to contribute to the country’s progress and development by introducing innovative breakthroughs and forming value-added partnerships with major stakeholders,” ended Wood.
