Tacurong City nurse attacked by mob

A private hospital in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat strongly condemned the harassment incident involving one of its nurses, where five suspects splattered bleach all over the nurse’s face while he was on his way to report for duty.

The incident happened on Friday, March 27, at around 5p.m.
“He was traversing near the Public Market of President Quirino when the mob of 5 individuals ganged up on him. Outnumbered and alone, he was helpless as these vile individuals splattered Zonrox (bleach) all over his face, which could have caused irreparable and permanent damage to his sight,” St. Louis Hospital-Tacurong City said in a statement.
The reason for the attack, however, remains unclear.
Fortunately, the nurse was able to rush himself to the hospital where he was given a prompt treatment which saved his life.
The hospital administration said the incident was already reported to the President Quirino Police Station.
But as of press time, the identities of the suspects are yet to be disclosed.
“We demand justice for our healthcare personnel. He heeded the call of duty when others would not,” the hospital management reiterated, citing that the victim is also a family breadwinner.
The incident is just one of the many reported cases classified as discriminatory move.
In Metro Manila, some healthcare workers appealed for help to the health department after some of their landlords kicked them out of their rented spaces.
The management of Rockwell Business Center in Ortigas, Pasig City also earned the ire of social media users after a front line worker protested about blocking healthcare workers of its neighboring hospital, The Medical City, from entering their premises to do bank transactions or share the road with them.
The management, then, issued an apology, citing that it was just part of their safety measures.
Hospital workers are most exposed to COVID-19 especially when they are handling patients who tested positive for the dreaded disease. But the health department appealed to instead show support to them, rather than discriminating these people while working on the frontlines of the pandemic.
