Laborer nabbed for delivering food pack laden with shabu to inmate in Lucena City jail
LUCENA CITY -- A 22-year-old construction worker was arrested after the packed lunch he delivered to an inmate at Lucena City Police custodial facility on Monday morning, Sept. 26, was found to have laden with shabu.
All food packs intended for inmates are subject to inspection and check before they can be brought inside the jail -- which is a practice in all jail custodial facilities in the country.
It was during this inspection that the food packs handed over by Jomar Albelar, a resident of Purok Maligalig, Barangay 10 in this city, was found to have a plastic sachet of suspected shabu in a bowl of rice and two aluminum foils, said jail custodial officer police senior Master Sergeant Hilda Fortunado.
Lucena City police chief Lt. Col. Reynaldo Reyes said that at that instance, the suspect was arrested at 11:20 a.m.
The confiscated shabu weighed 0.24 grams with an estimated value based on the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB) of P4,896.
The evidence is to be submitted to the Quezon Provincial Crime laboratory in Camp G. Nakar in Lucena City for laboratory examination while the suspect is subjected to drug testing, Reyes said.
A criminal complaint against the suspect is readied for referral to the Office of the City Prosecutor.
