Killed were Engineer Rencie Bautista, 33; his wife, Remedios Bautista, 33, a bank assistant manager; and their daughter, Zyryn Athena, 4, all occupants of a Toyota Vios; and tricycle driver Calexto Racasa, 64, of Barangay Sabang, Magdalena, Laguna.
Chief Inspector Erickson Go, local police spokesman, said the multiple-vehicle collision happened at 5:30 a.m. and that the 44-year-old truck driver, Ruel Jarabese of Lucena City, was taken into custody by the municipal police.
Investigation showed that Jarabase lost control of the trailer truck he was driving after ramming into Racasa’s tricycle which suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway to make a left turn.
The truck, which was traveling southbound, then collided head-on with the northbound Bicol Isarog Bus, driven by 55-year-old Florentino Densing, and the car occupied by the Bautista family.
Densing was also taken into custody by police as two of his passengers – Lutha Huarde, 35, and Vilma Azotea, 57, were seriously wounded.
Others wounded in the accident were Racasa’s tricycle passengers Jonas San Juan, 37; Aldrin Racasa, 22; and Aaron Racasa, 13.
