Caloocan police file raps vs. woman who faked grave coercion incident

The Caloocan City police announced on Thursday, Sept. 22, that charges were filed against the 19-year-old woman who reported that she was forced by a motorcycle driver to ride his vehicle last Sept. 4.

Col. Ferdinand Del Rosario, Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) officer-in-charge, said the claims of the woman, identified as "Sam," were false based on the new closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and the statements from the two witnesses.

He said the footage was from a concerned resident whose CCTV captured evidence that Sam and the rider apparently knew each other.

Del Rosario stated that the woman was charged for violations of Article 154 (Unlawful Means of Publication) and Article 353 (Libel) of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.

Authorities are still looking for pieces of evidence to identify the motorcycle rider.

"Sam" posted a CCTV footage on Facebook that went viral showing a man forcing her to ride his motorcycle along Alma Jose St., Brgy. 177 in Caloocan City.

She also said the man introduced himself as a police officer.

Del Rosario expressed his dismay on the result of the investigation.

"Lumalabas tuloy na magulo po ang isang lugar o isang siyudad na hindi naman totoo at iyon po ang masakit sa lahat pati po ang pulis ay naapektuhan at nabanggit po na ng pagkakataon na 'yon na pulis daw ang nagtangkang kumidnap sa kanya, 'yon ang masakit na pangyayari doon (Because of that, it appears that the place or the city is in trouble, which is not true and she mentioned that it was a police who tried to kidnap her which was painful for us)," he said.

"Sam" already deleted her posts on Facebook regarding the incident.

Del Rosario also called on the public not to take advantage of technology, especially in spreading fake news and malicious posts.

He also warned them that criminal charges can be filed against those who will ruin the reputation not only of the police but of other people.
