Lessons from ‘Yaya & Angelina, The Spoiled Brat Movie’
The movie, “Yaya & Angelina, The Spoiled Brat,” is not all about fun and laughter, nor comedy situations, but there are deeper significance which the audience can benefit from.
Michael V, the “other half” of Ogie Alcacid in the movie, said that there are important lessons which the audience can pick up, particularly about the relationship between a “yaya” (kasambahay, katulong, alila, or in any other description) which the “amo,” especially those who are abusive, can learn.
In a real household, for instance, there are “amos” who treat their “kasambahay” as doormats, and the poor “alila” can only cry in silence. Recent news told about “kasambahays” who were maltreated by their “amos.” Most of the time, it is the landlady who abuses the “alila” by making her a punching bag.
Anyway, “Yaya & Angelina, The Spoiled Brat,” will definitely make audiences roaring with laughter. Michael V and Ogie Alcasid are known as geniuses in tickling the ribs of their audiences.
Not much known as a comedian is Jojo Alejar who is also a member of the cast. While he is a movie actor, Jojo is now more popular with his TV5 show, “All the Way with Jojo A.” In fact, he first hosted the show at the RJTV, then to Q11, and later at TV5. Jojo is now in his 5th year hosting his TV show.
He describes his format as “mix-mix,” for it caters to all audiences. It features interviews with celebrities, politicians, artists, ordinary people, and what have you. It is his style of interviewing – sharp, brief, incisive questions that make the show more interesting. If you guest in his show, you must be quick and witty enough to answer his questions.
Boyish-looking, Jojo was known as one of the glamour boys. He said that his being included in “Yaya & Angelina” is an opportunity for him to refresh his own comic style!

Mark and Jennylyn back in each other’s arms
Last seen in the afternoon drama, “Sinenovela Presents: Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?” Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado are back in each other’s arms in “Ikaw Sana,” a fitting follow-up of the successful “Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?”
In the new dramatic series, Jennylyn stars as Eliza Montemayor, a music teacher whose life is about to change. With the untimely demise of her mother, Eliza is forced to live with her father’s legitimate family, which includes her half-sister Sofia played by the equally talented Pauleen Luna.
Raised literally and worlds apart, yet they get along quite well until they discover that they are both in love with the same man, Michael, who is played by Mark Herras.
This starts the cloak-and-dagger of the story! Who will be the “Ikaw Sana” or whom will Mark choose from the two women, both madly in love with him?

Local Film Tax Holiday in QC extended to 5 years
From the pigeonhole:
The Philippine movies once again gets its lion’s share from the Quezon City government when the city headed by Coun. Ariel Enrile-Inton, Jr., extended its tax holiday to another five years commencing in January next year.
The city council last Monday passed the Inton Ordinance No. SP-178-S-2006 amending the tax holiday of local films shown within the jurisdiction of the country’s premiere city. The original ordinance which was also authored by the majority floor leader was imposed in 2006 until the end of this year.
Coun. Inton who is very supportive of the movie industry observed that the film industry in the country is experiencing a substantial decrease in the number of locally produced motion pictures from over 200 films a year in the 70s to only 56 in 2008, and still continuously decreasing.
He said that the decline in number of local films made can be directly attributed to onerous taxation by both the national and local government therefore limiting its potential profitability.
“There is a need to extend to another five years,” Inton declared. “This way, local movie producers will be encouraged to make more films and breathe life to a financial challenged industry. That will also mean more jobs for small film workers.”
Coun. Inton has been helping the movie world. It is noted that Inton has been raising funds for the Mowelfund in order for this insurance-like organization to fulfill its responsibilities in assisting low-income movie workers. He again asked the city council and administration to increase ticket sales in all QC movie theater by P1 that will go to mentioned organization. This takes effect in the whole month of October this year.
Moreover, Inton had also donated cash amounts to the Nagkakaisang Mangagawa ng Pelikulang Pilipino (NMPP) for the scholarship program. He also sponsored a year ago an acting workshop organized by NMPP for the young people of the city who wanted to acquire movie acting as their career.
