“At this point, many of our fellow citizens, especially the indigent families are experiencing hunger because they are unable to go to work due to the implementation of enhanced community quarantine,” said SK Caranag Chairperson Joal Cocjin.
As such, this youth council launched “Project Tabang: Adopt-a-Family” program which aims to augment the need for food of every family in their barangay for a week, following their “Kabataan Kontra Corona” project.
The project gives priority displaced workers, families with large number of members, senior citizens, and indigent families which were considered to be the most affected of the implementation of enhanced community quarantine.
The youth council started a fundraising project on Saturday, March 28 and started its first wave of distributing relief goods to these sectors of the barangay on April 3, lasting until April 14 enhanced community quarantine is supposed to end.
As of press time, they were able to help 30 families, and are targeting to adopt up to 200 families in their barangay depending on the funds they could gather from donors.
“If ever the enhanced community quarantine extends, we will be working on our sixth COVID-19 project related to Project Tabang” Cocjin shared.
He noted that with a budget of only P50 per meal, they would be able to feed one family with nutritious food within a day.
He also mentioned that the project would also benefit local famers, from whom they will purchase the vegetables to be given to the families they will help.
