Comedian turned magician Bearwin “Da Bear” Meily is out to do the impossible and set a Pinoy Record Saturday in GMA-7’s “Pinoy Records,” hosted by boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and Chris Chiu.

Bearwin in the show will be handcuffed, his body chained and padlocked. He will be immersed in a water glass tank filled with water. Reminiscent of the late Harry Houdini’s stunt, he will free himself in front of nationwide viewers!

“This Water Escape stunt was almost one year in the making since I presented it to GMA-7 management. When they saw my video, they immediately agreed for me to do it,” explained Bearwin.

He added that though they gave him the thumbs-up, the network was at first hesitant because the stunt could be dangerous.

“They really asked me if I can do it because they don’t want any accidents happening in their show and face a lawsuit from such incident. I told them that I always study and learn a magic trick or stunt very well before I perform it,” smiled Bearwin confidently.

When everything was good to go, the process behind it was very tedious and taxing. He had to design the water tank made of solid steel and half-inch tempered glass. Then he asked actor and TV host Richard Gomez to refer him to a swimming coach who teach him basic to advanced swimming skills.

“I trained for six months in basic swimming. I also practiced extreme breath-holding exercises at the Valle Verde Country Club. Simultaneously, my magic team which I call Da Team studied and researched on Houdini, Magic, Illusion and Water Escape,” he related.

He stressed though that he was not claiming that this was an original trick or stunt. Inspired by Houdini he redesigned the water tank and its presentation to its Pinoy viewers. He simply wanted to show that a Filipino can do the trick and he would be the first Pinoy to showcase such stunt on TV in the history of Philippine Magic!

“Actually this Water Escape was originally planned for my ‘Thou Shalt Not Blink2.’ But because of my busy schedule as an actor and comedian I couldn’t finish it. I may not have a magic TV special this year but I’ll make sure that my stunt in ‘Pinoy Records’ will be something special and amazing for my fans and the viewers,” he explaimed.

You can catch Bearwin Meily, the “Pambansang Magician” meeting Manny Pacquiao, the “Pambansang Kamao” in “Pinoy Records” at GMA-7 at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. Updates and the latest news on Bearwin Meily is available at www.bearwinmeily.net.

Good opening for ‘Spoiled Brat the Movie’

It may have been raining all day in Metro Manila, but it wasn’t enough to deter Yaya and Angelina fans from making their way to movie theaters for the opening of “Yaya and Angelina: Spoiled Brat the Movie.” From an unofficial source, the movie from GMA Films and APT Entertainment grossed around R4.5 million on its opening day. The amount, partial, does account for all revenues from other theaters in Metro Manila.

“I’m so happy with the reception to the movie! Lalo na yung kids! It was raining but it didn’t seem to hamper the box-office. Thank you to everyone for supporting ‘Yaya and Angelina,’” expressed an ecstatic Ogie Alcasid.

The movie which is predicted to rake in more box-office receipts this weekend is a spin-off from the popular GMA-7 gag show “Bubblegang.” It stars Michael V. as Yaya and Ogie Alcasid as Angelina.

A comedy with a heart, it is a must-see movie by every “yaya” and their respective “Angelinas” and everyone as well. As they say laughter is the best medicine and this film is filled with it!
