Sarah Geronimo to break her own concert records

At 21, Sarah Geronimo, the country’s Pop Princess Diva, doesn’t need a boyfriend. She isn’t also looking for one just to validate her being a woman and her own happiness.

Already a seasoned performer at her young age, what she is more concerned about are the opportunities to show her fans something new and enigmatic everytime. And on Nov. 7 at the Araneta Coliseum, she hopes to break new records as a concert artist in her aptly titled show “Record Breaker.”

“This is to showcase my new standards as a total performer. Hopefully I’ll give this show justice, entertain my audience and even make them dance with my performances all throughout the night,” said a smiling Sarah during her recently held press conference about her upcoming concert.

In this her last major concert for the year and her fourth at the Araneta Coliseum or the Big Dome, her goal with her producer Viva Concerts is to make it a bigger and more exciting concert compared to her past three shows at the same venue. Adding to her concert’s mystery are the roster of guest performers which she and her producers are being mum about. As a special treat though to her audience she is singing a song from her “Christmas Girl” CD which would be released this October.

“Actually we’re thinking of new gimmicks so our audience will be more than satisfied not only with my performances on stage and my voice but also to have fun visually. We’re really preparing hard for this concert so people will notice how big its production value. This will be something bigger, more exciting and something different from my past concerts,” explained Sarah.

As to the title “Record Breaker,” Sarah said that it was the title of the jingle for her Sunsilk commercial. It’s a song that originated from Bangkok, Thailand.

“Actually after recording the song, it received favorable and warm reception from people who listened to it. The sound is something new and the music was patterned after Lady Gaga’s styles,” she added.

Throughout her career, Sarah Geronimo has become not just a “record breaker” when it comes to her concerts and albums. She too has become a bankable actress as her past two movies under Star Cinema were box-office hits. It wouldn’t be surprising if she would break box-office records in the near future with her forthcoming movies.

So what gives Sarah more pressure as an artist, a packed-concert venue or movie theaters?

“That’s a tough question. My first love is really singing and performing. In acting, pressure is also present because I’m not a natural actress. Unlike when I was a kid I was already singing. I guess there’s more pressure when it comes to my movie acting,” she replied.

She explained further that when she is performing or singing she is having more fun and enjoying every moment of it and this her fans could attest to. The pressure comes when she’s going to render a hard song which would usually require her to belt it out. But to sing and dance is innate in her as an artist.

As to whether she ever gets tired of performing in her shows, she said, “There are times, especially when I do shows abroad which is the same show every after different venues that I do get tired. But the moment I hear the audience cheer and applaud, nawawala ang pagod ko, and they give me more energy. That’s where I get my happiness too, from my audiences!”

After “Record Breaker,” Sarah flies to Europe for a concert tour which will lasts until the early days of December. Her next movie project will be with another box office hit actress Judy Ann Santos. Filming is expected to commence early 2010. And reports have it that there’s even a movie with Gerald Anderson also lined-up for Sarah.

“I’m very excited and nervous at the same time about my movie with Juday because she is a very good actress. Everyone knows how good she is in drama. I don’t know exactly what our movie will be about but if it will be drama, then that’s a big change for me who’s coming from light romantic comedy,” she commented.

With regards to the Sarah-Gerald tandem on the silver screen, she lamented that it wasn’t as sure as her film with Judy Ann Santos. She is leaving everything to God if her movie projects will all push through next year, like what she always say, if there’s a clamor from people or her fans, then it will happen.

And what’s her real take on still being single?

Sarah doesn’t believe that she has to have a boyfriend now that she’s 21 years old. When it comes to her love life, she is careful and cautious about getting into a romantic relationship or even accepting suitors.

“I don’t have to rush into having a boyfriend. I’m happy with what I have right now and I have my own inspirations. I’m very busy with my career and it’s already hard to study at the same time. Having a boyfriend right now will complicate things more,” she expounded.

She admits though that the thought of having a boyfriend crosses her mind every now and then but she is leaving it up to God to give her his “Mr. Right” or someone she can call “The One!” at the right time.

“I also ask myself when I can experience love. So I also pray for it but I don’t want to rush things so I won’t get hurt,” she quipped.

Her ideal boyfriend, she said, should be a man of God who will take care of her. He should also make her into a better person. He should also be patient if he is courting her because she is not ready at the moment to have a boyfriend!
