Sixty-two employees of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have contracted coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) from March to July, MMDA spokesperson Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said in a "Laging Handa" press briefing on Monday (July 20).
"Since March when the pandemic started, MMDA has recorded 62 cases of COVID-19 among its employees," she said in Filipino. "From March to July, one casualty was recorded by the agency."
Pialago said the agency has 20 active cases in July, adding that four of them are currently staying at the MMDA's isolation facility.
"One of the steps taken by our MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim is to provide an isolation facility for them," she said. "The chairman also provides food and medicines for those who contracted the diseases."
The MMDA spokesperson said that so far, 80 percent of those who found infected are asymptomatic.
MMDA's 800-sqm isolation facility, located at the agency's parking area, has two sections, one for suspect and one for probable cases.
Pialago said each section of the isolation facility has a 24-bed capacity equipped with shower rooms, comfort rooms, and lavatories.
"The rooms are fully-air conditioned, with Wi-Fi connection and are regularly cleaned and sanitized. Free meals are also provided."
