ILOILO CITY -- A man was jailed in Malinao town, Aklan province after posting a bomb joke online.
Authorities identified the suspect as Angelo Iglesias Macabare, a resident of Banay-Banay village.
Macabare was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Malinao Police Station and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday, May 17.
According to Police Captain Gelbert Batiles, it was traced that Macabare was the man behind the May 12 bomb hoax incident at the National Privacy Commission (NPC) at the PICC Complex in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, Metro Manila.
The bomb threat was made in a comment to a post by the official Facebook page of NPC.
Macabare was allegedly the person behind the Facebook account name Angelo Iglesias and was the one who commented: “Time bomb set in your building starts now.”
Because of the online threat, the NPC had to evacuate the building and suspend work for the rest of that day.
After the NPC reported it to the NBI’s Cybercrime Division, authorities later tracked the location in Aklan province. The NBI then contacted Malinao Police for the entrapment operation.
Macabare is facing charges of violating Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
