Jeepney driver shot, wounded in Quezon

CANDELARIA, Quezon -- A 30-year-old jeepney driver was shot and wounded by two still unidentified assailants at Purok 5, Barangay Mangilag Sur in this town on Monday evening, May 22. The police identified the victim as John Eric Leyesa Din, a resident of Brgy. Bukal, Tiaong, Quezon. He sustained gunshot wounds in the body. He was rushed to United Candelaria Doctors Hospital by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office ambulance. The victim, on board his motorcycle, was traversing the dark grassy portion of barangay road heading toward Candelaria By-Pass Road when the assailants suddenly appeared and shot him several times, hitting him on different parts of his body, the police said. During the investigation, the victim told the police that his companion, a back rider identified as Lynder Untalan, induced him to proceed to Barangay San Andres. After the shooting incident, Untalan left him and was nowhere to be found, and considered by police as a person of interest (POI). Upon coordination with Tiaong Police about the background of Untalan it was found out that Untalan was previously arrested for a drug-related case on March 12, 2019.
