Iloilo City spends P257 M to spruce up plazas

ILOILO CITY – The city government has spent P257 million to beautify plazas here.

“The plazas are being restored by the city because we want to make public spaces available to our constituents which are very important as it gives people a place to rethink and recharge,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

The Treñas administration spent P90 million for Jaro Plaza, P75 million for La Paz Plaza, P46 million for Arevalo Plaza, P30 million for Plaza Libertad, and P10 million for Mandurriao Plaza.

The Green, Green, Green program of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) as well as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) provided additional funding for two plazas – P19 million for Plaza Libertad and P17 million for Mandurriao Plaza.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) funded the redevelopment of three structures that are part of the Jaro Plaza: The Jaro Belfry, the Lopez Jaena Shrine, and the statue of lady heroine Patrocinio Gamboa. The NHCP also provided funding for Molo Plaza.
