500 families affected by fires receive cash aid from Manila LGU

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan expressed her sympathy for 500 families whose houses were razed during the fire incidents in Manila in January this year.
Accompanied by the Manila Department of Social Welfare (DSW) Chief Re Fugoso, the mayor distributed financial assistance worth P10,000 to each of the affected families from Barangays 101, 275, and 310 in Districts 1 and 3.
The recipients were displaced by fire incidents that hit their homes on Jan. 28 and 31.
The city government held the distribution at the covered court inside the University De Manila (UDM).
In her short message, Lacuna-Pangan reminded Manileños not to leave any lit candles, burners, or stoves unattended and even gadgets that are being charged, which she said are the common causes of fire.
"Alam po namin na hindi sasapat ang tulong na ito subalit hangad namin na makatulong kahit paano sa inyong muling pagbangon (We know that this help will not be enough but we wish to help in any way in your recovery)," Lacuna- Pangan told the fire victims.
"During such incidents, saving lives must be the priority instead of properties," she stressed.
DSW members also provided the victims with hot meals, clothes, hygiene kits, and beds.
