Suspect in Pinay’s slay arrested
British authorities have arrested a male suspect in connection with the killing of a Filipina caregiver who was found dead in a farmland in Rochester, Kent, which is a two-hour drive from the British capital of London, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
In a report to the home office, the Philippine Embassy in London said the suspect, who is in his 30s, was apprehended on September 29, more than two weeks after Leah G. Cuestin, 37, was reported missing.
The DFA said the UK Police Homicide and Serious Crime Command in Hendon, London is conducting an intensive investigation on the case.
“The Philippine Embassy is closely monitoring the investigation and is appealing to anyone who knew the victim to provide any relevant information to UK authorities or the Embassy,” it said in a statement.
Cuestin, who was in the UK for over a year before her disappearance in mid-September, was the subject of an intensive search by the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police Missing Persons Bureau after she failed to report for work on September 13.
Ms. Cuestin was in the UK for over a year before her disappearance in mid-September 2009. Aside from pursuing studies at Thames International College, she also worked part-time in a care home in London.
