Wicked Sense of Humor
You reap what you sow.
All prophets from all religions and philosophies have said this time and again. Even those who do not see any need for believing in a god or gods, they believe in the eternal truth of this unbending precept. You get what you give. For every action, a reaction.
In most cases, you get a hundredfold, even more, of what you give. You steal a million pesos of taxpayers' money, you would probably lose all your wealth and your family and relatives. Maybe not now, but somewhere in the near or far future, something known by humans by various names since time immemorial, will finally get its due. And more.
You steal. It plunders in turn. You kill. It ravages. You lie. It bares the truth for all to see.
Karma, divine retribution, and golden rule — these are just some of the names with which this universal rule of justice has been known through the ages. Even our very own "pana-panahon" or "weather-weather" is, in more ways than one, a representation of this concept.
Yes, nothing exists by itself. Nothing is said, nothing is done, and nothing is acted upon that does not have an effect. Our Asian cousins have got it figured so neatly with their concept of the yin and yang.
In our context, this concept of duality is an encompassing, all permeating presence. You harm nature. It harms you in return. You desecrate nature. It treats you like a pariah. You kill trees and animals. Mother Nature kills you. Or your mothers and fathers, or your children.
You sell your vote. Your government screws you. You vote for comedians. The joke ends up on you. You tolerate corruption. Corruption takes over everything. You chose the lesser evil. The lesser evil becomes the greatest wrath from hell.
Yes, nothing exists by itself. Or for itself.
EU to Recall iPhones?
Meglena Kuneva, the European Union's consumer affairs commissioner, recently said that the European government would not hesitate to pull out the iPhone from the market, and issue a product recall should reports be confirmed that Apple's smartphone poses a serious threat to consumers.
Previously, there have been a number of media reports in several EU countries and in the United States of iPhone overheating and exploding.
Kuneva said that the EU does not need permission from Apple to issue a product recall covering the world's most popular smartphone. Meanwhile, Apple has claimed that overheating lithium ion batteries has been causing the problem.
Location, Location
Late-model mobile phones usually come with location tracking features. In the United States, for example, the government has required that handsets come with location-tracking features to enable emergency personnel to determine a subscriber's location. As usual, with every good intent comes a host of unexpected results, mostly unpleasant.
