Trailblazing DMV Entertainment has found another gem of a talent in the person of Jay L Dizon, who makes his presence felt in the production outfit’s forthcoming movie “I Love Dreamguyz.”

Needless to say, Jay L is handsome, hunky and talented and he stood out in an audition conducted by DMV. When he danced and acted out his lines from the script written by Eric Ramos, Manny Valera and Joel Lamangan were convinced they’ve found their “Jake,” the character Jay L plays in “I Love Dreamguyz.”

Jake is a struggling fellow who joins a dance group bound for Japan so that he can earn big bucks and prove to his rich girlfriend’s family that he is worthy of her love. It’s a good role for a newcomer and Jay L was very grateful, saying “malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa DMV, kina Direk Manny Valera and Direk Joel Lamangan na nagbigay sa akin ng pagkakataong ito.”

Jay L did not disappoint both Manny and Joel because during the shooting, he proved to them his acting mettle. Says Direk Joel: “I take my hats off to Jay L, nakita ko ang kanyang pagsisikap. Hindi siya bumibitaw sa mga mabibigat na eksena at may kusa siyang pagbutihin pa ang kanyang craft. It’s as if he is not a beginner in his very challenging field.”

On the other hand, Direk Manny who was moved by Jay L’s performance in his reunion with his mother played by noted film/stage actress Mailes Kanapi and another dramatic scene towards the end of the movie, has this to say: “Pinahanga niya ako, at pati mga kasama namin sa staff, namumugto ang mga mata pagkatapos i-shoot ang mga eksenang iyon ni Jay L. After that, we were all in agreement na yes, may mararating ang batang ito.”

The positive feedback has inspired the young actor to work harder. He has doubled his work-out to he can maintain his sexy physique. He is also now studying drama so he can truly immerse himself into the art of acting. “Actually, in a way naka-relate rin ako sa role ko as Jake kasi meron akong gustong makamit,” he says. “Gaya ng mga nangangarap, ang gusto ko ay magtagal sa showbiz.”

“I Love Dreamguyz” is Jay’s movie debut but he is not a stranger to showbiz. He was part of GMA Network’s artista search “Starstruck,” and was a mainstay of TV 5’s comedy show “Ogags.”

With Jay L in “I Love Dreamguyz,” which opens on Nov. 4 in Metro Manila and key cities nationwide, are Marco Morales, Mhyco Aquino, Miggy Valdez and Sherwin Ordoñez. The others in the cast are Nina Jose and Jao Mapa who plays the role of the talent manager Didi. The trailer of the movie can now be viewed on YouTube.

WCOPA champ gets scholarship from NY

Another Pinoy has made the country proud in the 13th edition of the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA). He is Guy Lockwood who emerged the World Champion for Male – Acting Contemporary in the prestigious annual competition.

According to Leo Ortega Laparan II, Guy also bagged medals in the following categories: Gold in the Male Acting Contemporary; Gold, Male Vocal Gospel; Silver, Male Acting Dramatic; Silver, Male Variety (Martial Arts); and Bronze, Male Vocal Country & Western. He also received an Industry Award for Most Requested Go-Sees, which is awarded to contestants who had agents, directors and producers’ request to see them, after watching their performances.

And recently, Leo said Guy got a scholarship to the prestigious New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts (NYCDA). This is another feat indeed for Guy because over 50,000 aspirants audition for scholarships to the school every year but only 180 are accepted.

“In that sense, I feel that I did my country good. I feel very honored and appreciated that my talent got recognized. For me, to be given a scholarship, knowing that it’s not easy to make it, makes me feel even better,” Guy reportedly said.

His name may sound foreign but Guy is pure Filipino. He was born in Sta. Cruz, Manila but relocated to Hong Kong at age seven and grew up there with his mother Marcelina who remarried. His stepfather adopted Guy. His mother suggested he try acting in the Philippines and that was when they came over, courtesy of famous hairdresser Tony Galvez (it was in his parlor in Cubao where we first saw and interview Guy).

While here, Guy has appeared in stage musicals. He trained under Fritz Ynfante (for acting), Montet Acoymo and Yamaha School of Music (voice training in pop), the Center for Pop Philippines (voice training and stage performance) and Julia Biernmann in New Zealand (for voice for acting).
