In men’s contest, Warren Pirante hammered 25 hits and added four blocks while Eynard Vergara came through with 15 strikes to lift Letran to a 25-23, 17-25, 11-25, 25-23, 19-17 triumph over San Beda and move a win away from a third straight championship.

In juniors’ action, Wilfred Pelone and John Erickson Francisco conspired for 41 hits as they powered Perpetual Help to a 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20 win over San Sebastian to inch closer to its first ever crown.

In the distaff side, with the game knotted at 14-all in the deciding set, the power-hitting Joy Benito unleashed a pair of rocket-like kills, her 21st and 22nd overall, to essay the come-from-behind triumph for the SSC belles, who hope to wrap things up in Game Two on Thursday.
