Saturday night, avid viewers of Q Channel 11’s “Events Incorporated,” hosted by Tim Yap, will reveal that the show is more than just parties and having fun. It is also a learning experience with its special segment called “Top Party School.”

For months, “Events Inc.” was in search for the “Top Party School” and its focus was on the best party ideas, teamwork and themes, among others.

According to program manager Bernadette Young, the turn out from different college organizations was good. They got entries from universities like ADMU, DLSU, AIESEC, CBS Corp. of Diplomats, and UP Manila ADHERE.

UP Manila ADHERE, the winner will be featured this Saturday in “Events Inc.”

“What is important for us is that these teams learn something. In the end we all asked them if they learned something about events planning. It’s like their practicum,” explained Ms. Young.

She added that it was also the show’s way of tapping into the college students because Q Channel 11’s viewers are mostly composed of women.

“This time we want to reach out to kids who really want to enjoy and party… we didn’t make this search for the sake of making an event. We want it to like give back so these young people can learn something… what’s important is having a good concept and that they can sell that concept to us. If they sell their idea then what’s important is that they can do it within a budget. Aside from our show being about events it is also about TV productions. And these are just some of the things we taught them,” said Ms. Young.

They also encouraged UP ADHERE to sell tickets which they did and the proceeds would benefit D.A.R.E and the victims of typhoon Ondoy.

“The party they organized also became an event to give back to the needy,” quipped Ms. Young.

The different teams went through “Events Inc.’s” Events Management Workshop with party mentors Robbie Carmona, JR Isaac, and Stephen Ku. And according to EI insiders, the UP Maroons were always on top of their party game. The winning party idea from UP Manila ADHERE was – Cirque!

After being announced as the winner, UP ADHERE’s Cirque party was mounted last Oct. 9, 2009 at One Esplanade. They deemed it as a whimsical night of music and fashion.

Students from UP as well as other colleges packed the place to experience UP ADHERE’s Cirque party. And as expected everyone was mesmerized with the ala-circus ambiance designed by the event team. It had also a carnival atmosphere with a lot of activities inside One Esplanade – face or body painting, cotton candy and balloon booths, photo booths and more. Adding fun was the free-flowing popcorn, waffles and drinks available at the food stalls around the venue.

Cocktails were also served to the guests. These are non-alcoholic beverages that students indulged in guilt-free.

UP ADHERE’s Aylwyn Valenciano stressed that Cirque’s advocacy was “No to Drugs.”

“We want to show people that we can be high without drugs. We can party and have a natural high just by having clean fun and that is what Cirque is all about,” she described.

To be more visual about Cirque, the hosts for the night were dressed as a trapeze woman and a ringmaster. The spectacular lights display made everyone feel that they were inside a circus arena.

Indayog, UP Manila’s resident dance group, opened the show with their modern dance moves. There was a fashion show by Paul Herrera and his students from the Fashion Institute of the Philippines which displayed masterpieces that are Cirque-inspired. What added beauty to the array of trendy dresses were the magicians performing tricks and illusions in between every set of the fashion show.

Aside from the band Pedicab’s performance, what also livened Cirque was the impromptu song and dance number of GMA Artist Center’s talented Krissa Mae who is also “Event’s Inc.’s” host and events specialist.

The program culminated with Eventologist Tim Yap giving the award to UP ADHERE’s president, Cielo Remorin, and congratulating the entire UP team for a job well done!
