Manila City jail officials destroy contrabands

By Ria Fernandez Various contrabands, including mobile phones, tobacco bricks, and cigarettes, seized from inmates of Manila City Jail were destroyed on Tuesday morning at the prison grounds in Sta. Cruz district. Using a road roller, jail officers' feet, and baseball bat, 303 mobile phones (47 of which were touch screen and four were smart watches), 489 bricks of tobacco, 6511sticks of tobacco, and 5920 sticks of Marlboro cigarettes were crushed into pieces. "So far no one has gotten sick yet due to summer season. But we are anticipating that a lot of them will be having rashes. We are closely monitoring that and we have enough medicines," Panti said.
