A businesswoman and her accomplice were arrested on April 20 in an entrapment operation for selling fake quarantine passes in Las Piñas city.
Las Piñas police chief, Col. Segundo Lagundi, identified the arrested suspects as Mreclina Cayanan, 39, of Malugay St., CAA, and Santiago Capon, 26, of Bagong Lipunan, CAA.
Lagundi said that based on the report submitted to him by Capt. Eleazar Camiling, chief of the Station Investigation Division, the suspects were arrested at about 12 noon on Monday at 113 Malugay St. in Barangay CAA. A concerned citizen called tipped the police off about the suspects.
In an interview, Camiling said that a total of 50 fake quarantine passes were recovered from the possession of the suspects. Each of the passes were sold at P20.
Camiling added that the suspects had sold at least 50 fake quarantine passes. Authorities are now hunting those who have these fake passes, potentially to also file a case against them.
The arrested suspects are facing charges of falsification of public documents. Both are now detained at the police custodial facility.
With the discovery of this modus, the Las Piñas police warns city residents that they will be more strict in checking quarantine passes.
Camiling said they know if a person is holding a fake quarantine pass because the original has a seal of the city government. Jean Fernando
