By Genalyn Kabiling As the government sustains the crackdown on the narcotics trade, President Duterte has threatened to behead big-time drug traffickers regardless of their nationality. "Ayaw ko ng corruption lalo na ‘yang --- ayaw ko 'yan. Droga, ganun rin. 'Pag big time ka, mai--- ma-Chinese ka man, ma-Japanese ka o ma-Malaysian ka, talagang ‘pag nag-engkwentro tayo, drug lord ka na tonelada, puputulin ko talaga 'yang ulo mo ," Duterte said during oath-taking ceremony of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. officers in Malacañang Tuesday night. "Wala akong pakialam. Eh 'di makulong kung makulong. Ma-remember lang ako ninyo maski Christmas time, magdala lang kayo ng magandang pagkain, okay na. Once a year lang naman 'yan. Totoo lang ," he said. He warned that if he catches foreign criminal syndicates like Sinaloa drug cartel trafficking illegal drugs into the country, he would really "kill" them and dump their bodies in the sea. "Talagang papatayin ko 'yan. Eh talagang puputulin ko 'yung ulo, itapon ko diyan. Pero hindi ko sabihin sa press ," he said. He affirmed that he would not allow these drug traffickers to destroy the nation, especially the youth. "If you destroy my country, I'll have to kill you," he said, lamenting that a family collapses when a member is addicted to illegal drugs. In another speech at the Palace, Duterte made clear that while he would finish off drug lords, he does not kill small-time drug peddlers. "Hindi ako nagpapatay ng mga --- tawag nila niyan basurero, mga tinyente. Iyong basurero is the peddlers pero ‘yung malalaki, alam ninyo, they have to go ," he said during the assembly of local government officials. "Kung sabihin mo --- lalo na alien. T

At the start of his term in 2016, President Duterte launched a bloody campaign against illegal drugs that has so far left more than 5,000 people dead based on government records. The anti-drug drive however drew criticisms here and abroad for alleged extrajudicial killings and other abuses supposedly committed by state forces.
