CEBU CITY – The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) wants foreign students taking up language courses in the country to be subjected to random drug testing, especially after the arrest of Korean students in Cebu for marijuana use.

DDB Undersecretary Paul Oaminal sent a letter requesting Justice Secretary Agnes Devenadera to order the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation to conduct random drug testing to foreign students in the country.

“Government needs to orient foreign students of our anti-drugs law to inform them of the strictness of the law,” Oaminal told Manila Bulletin Thursday.

Oaminal said foreign students using illegal drugs in the country means that they arrogantly believe they are above the law and have no respect for the country’s justice system.

“The move (random drug test) is not intended to prevent these foreign students from having fun in our country but to remind them that they should respect our laws, specifically our laws against taking drugs,” said Oaminal.

Thursday, the Cebu City Police Office filed charges against two Koreans arrested Sunday night for allegedly smoking marijuana in a parking lot outside an uptown resto-bar.

The City Prosecutor’s Office received the case against Jin Eun and Sun Woo Jung, both 28, whom police accused of violating Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
