Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has ordered a backtracking of the cases of three slain Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officials to determine if their death is connected to the alleged anomalous implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law.

“Now that issue about the GCTA came up and there were witnesses in the Senate hearing, this GCTA now becomes a probable motive on the case of (Ruperto) Traya (Jr.),” said
Traya, chief administrative office at the BuCor’s Inmate Document Processing Division, was shot dead on August 27 in Muntinlupa City.
“Now we want to know if this is also the case with regard to the death of two other BuCor employees,” he added.
Eleazar was referring to the killing of Insp. Rommel Reyes in September 2018 and Chief Insp. Angelita Peralta in December also last year. They were killed by motorcycle-riding men.
Initially, Eleazar said the motive looked into on the cases of Reyes and Peralta was illegal drugs-related, what with reports in the past of continuous operations of convicted drug lords inside the National Bilibid Prisons.
The official admitted that they still have no proof that the death of the three BuCor employees is GCTA-related.
“But it is better if we also look into this angle. We want to know that is why I ordered the backtracking of the initial results of the investigation,” said Eleazar.
The NCRPO Chief said that he is hoping that they could get more leads as to the death of the three BuCor employees now that some witnesses have already surfaced to spill the beans on the alleged irregularity on the implementation of the GCTA.
During the Senate hearing, some witnesses claimed that they paid huge sums of money to increase the chances of their relatives to be released through the GCTA law.
