VIGAN, Ilocos Sur - Presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will announce in January 2021 whether she will give in or reject the clamor for her to seek the presidency.

The lady mayor made this disclosure as she spearheaded the nationwide campaign of the 13 senatorial candidates that the Hugpong ng Pagbabago, a regional political group she founded, has chosen to endorse.
The national campaign blitz has been widely speculated as Mayor Duterte’s initial foray to a bid to take over the presidency from her equally popular father, President Duterte.
The Davao mayor has set January 2021 her deadline to decide on the presidency.
“Depende sa circumstances. Siguro gawa na lang tayo ng deadline on January 2021 (It will depend on the circumstances. Maybe we should set a deadline on January 2021),” she told reporters after sharing the campaign stage with the senatorial coalition she is backing.
Known as one of the country’s strongest but most popular local executive, Mayor Duterte said she has not yet made up her mind on the presidency notwithstanding the intensity of a public clamor for her to run.
“I wish that they would not talk about me like that dahil iyong may gustong maging president, as early as now ilalagay nila ako sa number one sa hate list nila,” she noted.
Earlier, President Duterte announced that he will support former Senate President Manny Villar should he decide to make another run for the presidency.
Mayor Sara pointed out that running for the highest position in the land is not an “overnight decision.” She said it requires money, machinery and “guidance” from God.
The young Duterte, introduced here as “honorary Ilocana” for being married to Ilocano lawyer Manases Carpio, said she has no objective in the campaign but to strongly push for the candidacy of senatorial bets who will provide the President with much-needed legislative support to complete his program before the end of his term in 2022.
Governor Ryan Singson welcomed Duterte and her team and assured a solid support from his constituents.
During the campaign rally attended by at least 85 percent of all local and provincial officials of Ilocos Sur, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, who emceed the program, was also goaded to seek the speakership of the House of Representative to further guarantee legislative support for Duterte’s programs.
Present were re-electionist Senators JV Ejercito and Cynthia Villar, broadcast journalist Jiggy Manicad, retired PNP director general Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa; presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino, former senators Ramon “Bong”Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada, Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
Mayor Sara admitted her list of senatorial bets differ from the 11-man list of the President.
While their choices vary by two or three bets, she expects no conflict as all of those chosen are expected to work for the Duterte administration’s legislative priorities.
She said she expects no conflict in the campaign schedule of PDP-Laban and Hugpong.
