ITCZ , LPA to bring clouds, rains to most of MIMAROPA, parts of Zamboanga peninsula

(PAGASA/ MANILA BULLETIN) (PAGASA/ MANILA BULLETIN) The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low pressure area (LPA) about 420 kilometers west-northwest of Puerto Princesa is embedded within the ITCZ. However, the ITCZ will be the dominant weather system that could bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay. PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said rains could trigger flash floods or landslides in these areas during severe thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will continue to be the dominant weather system over Northern and Central Luzon. Cloudy skies with light amihan rains may affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora. Fair weather in the morning with chances of late afternoon or early evening rain showers may persist over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. However, Mendoza advised the public to remain alert for severe thunderstorms that may trigger landslides over mountainous regions or flash floods over low-lying areas. The rains in the past few days have gradually helped increase Angat Dam’s water level, although it remains below its desired level. Based on the PAGASA’s monitoring, the water level of Angat Dam has increased to 188.32 meters on Sunday from 187.53 meters last Saturday. It has been increasing since Thursday but remains below the 210-meter normal high water level before the end of the year.
