Courtship of Sorts

For some people in the Philippines, Mediterranean food has a tendency to overwhelm the senses. It can spell an olfactory disaster for those who have an underexposed sense of smell. Others, who have not fully developed their taste buds, can’t take the spiciness that’s often associated with it. These kinds of impressions often undermine the value of Mediterranean cuisine.
Mediterranean cuisine is one of the most-varied types of cuisine in the world. It has gained the nod of food enthusiasts and health buffs because of its exotic flavors and healthful preparation.
But just like in any relationship, there’s no need to rush things when it comes to starting your love affair with Mediterranean food. You can take things slowly and lightly—and start your journey at The Kebab Factory.
The Kebab Factory is owned by some members of the third generation of the Sehwani family: a prominent name in Indian social circles based in the Philippines. The restaurant is usually managed by Sameera Sehwani with the help of her husband Ravi and some relatives from time to time.
But despite their foreign heritage, they are aware of the local Filipino’s usual preferences, having spent most of their growing years in our country. Through this, they managed to tweak the dishes they serve to fit the Filipino palate while staying put with the tastes of their Indian-Mediterranean menu.
“The nice thing about our food, Indian food especially, is that it’s not the typical food which is very heavy on spice and oil. Our version is very healthy, it’s very light,” says Sameera. She adds though that they accommodate requests from customers who prefer to have their meals spiced up hot.
One of the restaurant’s specialties includes: Chicken Mast Kebab, tender pieces of boneless chicken marinated and roasted to perfection; the Shiskebab; and the Lamb Chop Tandoori, a juicy rack of lamb marinated in yogurt, garlic, and spices, then roasted in a Tandoor oven (a special type of oven that cooks the food from the inside going to the outside, thus retaining the food’s moisture). Aside from kebabs and food items out of different meats, they also offer vegetarian friendly meals.
The Kebab Factory is located at the 2nd Floor of the Atrium of SM Megamall.
