“Survivor Philippines: Palau” castaway Justine Ferrer believes she has proven a point by drubbing other contestants who were also voted off to “Isla Purgatoryo.”

“I really thought…I had to do it (win in ‘Purgatoryo’). It goes back to the idea of…having that need....to prove a point. And by doing it within the show, I’m going to be able to do it in a big way.”

Ferrer, who has had a complete sex change—from male to female—prior to joining the game, lamented in an interview how some people “still view [her] as some sort of ‘comedic punch line.’”

By trouncing fellow castaways Carol Gementiza, Maya Segovia, Vlad Nesas, Louie Ang, Troy Perez, and Cris Bolado in duels while in “Purgatoryo,” Ferrer feels she has finaly vindicated herself to people who dismissed her like the “usual screaming fag in movies” who "could only cut hair or primp themselves up.”

Ferrer, is now among the six finalists still vying for the "Sole Survivor" title along with Mika Batchelor, Charles Fernandez, Shaun Rodriguez, Jef Gaitan, and Amanda Colley Van Cooll.

In an interview following the announcement, Ferrer recalled almost giving up while in ‘exile.’

“I was always asking myself, ‘How many more? How much longer?’ I was really pushed to my utmost limits.

"In the end, though, it was all worth it.”

Ferrer is confident of her chances inasmuch as she thinks it’s still “everybody’s ballgame.”

“But I personally am wary about Amanda. She has been so quiet all this time and I think she just might be able to push herself harder as the endgame nears,” Ferrer shared.

Ask the other contestants, however, and they’d say Ferrer just might be “it.”

“I think Justine has got what it takes to go all the way,” Colley Van Cooll said.

Batchelor rejoined, “She’s proven herself throughout the game…she’s very strong. She’s the biggest challenge for me along, of course, with Shaun, who I think is doing very good.”

Rodriguez meanwhile considers Ferrer as with Batchelor--among his possible stumbling blocks.

“The two are like the biggest hurdles for me…but then as long as I’m still in the game, I’ll make it very hard for them.”

Ferrer said she knew that from the time she revealed herself a "transwoman," the attention will be focused on her. “They will look at me differently...and they did.”

She, however, defended “Survivor Philippines: Palau” from detractors who accused the show of being exploitative in pursuing the angle—even as the issue still continues to be among the central topics concerning her vis-a-vis the show.

“I like the fact that they zeroed on the angle…my revelation would have been pointless if they didn’t.

“The thing is, I wanted to say something when I joined the contest and I like to think that [the show’s producers] helped me get that across.”
