“New Moon” CD rises to number one
“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” soundtrack, which features music by Thom Yorke, The Killers and Death Cab for Cutie, completes its phase by ruling the number one spot at the Billboard album charts this week.
The “Twilight” sequel sold 153,000 copies this week. It is the second soundtrack album this year to reach the top of the Billboard 200 following that for the Miley Cyrus starrer, “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” which charted of May 2009.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the album and singles charts are being dominated by everything that has to do with the hit talent show “X-Factor.” The number one album is “Overcome” by British R&B artist and “X-Factor” winner Alexandra Burke while the show’s judge, Cheryl Cole, tops the singles chart with “Fight For This Love.”
On the Hot 100 charts, pop and electronic outfit Owl City streaks to number one, racking up an impressive 650,000 downloads as an iTunes single. The album from which it is culled, “Ocean Eyes,” has sold 26,000 digital copies so far.
Adam Young, the brains behind Owl City, first started making music as a hobby by creating music on his laptop. Young started to get noticed when he posted a seven-song EP entitled “Of June” on his MySpace page in June of 2007. The positive response to his EP eventually led to his recording of the self released, full length album, “Maybe I’m Dreaming,” in March of 2008.
Jason Derulo’s song, “Whatcha Say,” goes up a notch and snatches the number two spot while Jay Sean goes “Down” two notches to number three.
“Party In The U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus retreats one step to number four, same as Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West’s “Run This Town” which falls to number five.
Lady Gaga maintains the number six spot with “Paparazzi” while Black Eyed Peas latest single, “Meet Me Halfway,” gains momentum, moving up two steps to number seven.
Continuing to falter in the singles chart are Britney Spears’s “3” and the Peas’s “I Gotta Feeling,” now at numbers eight and nine, respectively.
Closing the week’s singles countdown is a new entry by Beyonce titled “Sweet Dreams.”
