4.1 magnitude quake hits Surigao del Sur

By Mike Crismundo BUTUAN CITY — A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Sur province early Sunday morning,, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. (AFP / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) (AFP / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) However, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damages or injuries after the early morning tremor struck in that Pacific Ocean-facing province of Surigao del Sur yesterday. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was registered at 5:37 a.m. The epicenter was located 116 kilometers northwest of Lingig town, Surigao del Sur, it said. The tremor had a depth of 31 km, Phivolcs said. No aftershock is expected. The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.
