The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Thursday warned the public against supposed job opportunities in Russia.

In an announcement on its website (www.poea.gov.ph), the POEA warned overseas job applicants “against promises of employment in Moscow under the pretext of invitation from the Russian Olympic Committee but using travel agencies as front for deployment.”

The POEA noted that “foreigners holding commercial visas in Russia are not allowed to work.”

“Applicants who want to work in Russia should undergo the legal process of OFW documentation at the POEA,” the POEA said.

Relatedly, the POEA said Macau is now targeting overstaying foreigners.

The agency said the new immigration regulation of Macau “penalizes foreigners, including Filipino tourists, who overstay in Macau, Special Administrative Region for more than 30 days after their permit expires with a fine of 200MOP (US$26.00) per day.”

“Offenders who commit the same violation within 180 days will not be able to ‘legalize’ this overstaying by paying fines and will have to leave Macau immediately. Illegal immigrants will be deported and prohibited from entering Macau, SAR for a certain period as indicated in the deportation order,” POEA warned.
