Land Transportation, Franchising, and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) authorities have resealed the meters of some 600 taxi units belonging to a transport concessionaires group operating yellow metered-taxis at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in an effort to assure the riding public that taxi units operating 24/7 at the country’s premier airport will not overcharge them.

Airport Transport Concessionaires Association, Inc. (ATCAI) President Romeo Sayaman said their group and the LTFRB capped Thursday the resealing process of all yellow taxi units after 16 taxi units from their group were recently found to have defective meters.

Two weeks ago, land transport law enforcers apprehended 16 taxi units from the ATCAI found to have defective meter seals during an operation conducted at the old domestic airport in Pasay City

Subsequently, LTFRB Chairman Alberto Suansing ordered the release of the taxi units owned by members of the ATCAI to the custody of their president pending a thorough inspection and resealing of a total of 600 taxi units belonging to members of the ATCAI. Failure to comply with the requirements would constitute misrepresentation with the LTFRB that may warrant the imposition of sanctions against the taxi group.
