BIR wants 'Oplan Kandado' continued
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Regional Director Alert Alocilja said he would like to continue “Oplan Kandado,” initiated by just- resigned BIR Commissioner Sixto Esquivas IV, as a disciplinary measure against erring taxpayers.
Director Alocilja said that prior to Esquivas' resignation, his office had proposed the closure of two establishments under BIR Regional Office 11. Action on this proposal is still pending, he said. He informed that the regional office contributes about one percent of total revenue collection in the country.
“However, we are now intensifying our revenue collections to establish a good record and hit our goals,” Alocilja said. With the expected refocusing under Commissioner Joel Tan Torres, who has been appointed Office-in-Charge before the agency designates a formal replacement to Esquivas, the BIR regional office is closely monitoring top taxpayers and others in the region to meet their collection goal for the year.
