CEBU CITY – A local industry player believes that apart from unemployment, the country is suffering from having underemployed workers or those whose skills and abilities do not fit their working environment.

“Apart from the exodus of our workers who seek better opportunities abroad, we have so many workers that are misaligned from their careers or are underutilized. It’s not common to see nursing students working in call centers,” said Glenn Anthony Soco, president of Cebu-based skills training center, Global Power Skills Development Center.

Soco, in an interview, revealed that this “alarming scenario” has promoted the Soco Group of Companies through Satellite Ventures Inc., to establish a training center that will produce a world-class manpower pool.

Global Power Skills Development Center, Inc., a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-accredited skills training firm, offers courses that enhance accessory skills particularly related to hospitality and tourism sectors.

The center initially focuses on providing training that are “needs-based” such as bar tending, housekeeping, food and beverage services, barista, commercial cooking, baking, and pastry.
