Degamo family seeks replacement of all prosecutors in Negros Oriental – Sec. Remulla
The family of slain Negros Oriental Gov. Roel R. Degamo has sought the replacement of all prosecutors assigned in the province, Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla disclosed on Wednesday, March 15.
“May kahilingin rin sila na palitan din ang ating mga prosecutors na nakatalaga sa Negros Oriental sapagkat meron silang nirereklamo rin na mga nangyayari noong araw (They have requested to replace the prosecutors in Negros Oriental because of past complaints that were filed),” Remulla disclosed during an interview on DZBB.
He said he has assured the Degamo family that the DOJ will look into other cases of violence in the province.
“May nakarating sa amin na balita na may labing pitong kaso pa na kailangan namin iimbestigahan (We have received reports that there are 17 other cases that we need to investigate),” he said.
He assured that more information will be sought from the Degamo family after the burial of the late governor on Thursday, March 16.
Meanwhile, Remulla reiterated his assurance for the safety of Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Anolfo Teves Jr. upon his return to the Philippines.
“Marami ho tayo pwede italaga para mai-secure sila (We have many personnel available that can be assigned to him for security),” he said.
“Mahalaga umuwi at face the charges kasi parang doon papunta ngayon ang kalahatan nito (What’s important is Teves returns to the Philippines and face the allegations because everything seems to lead to him being involved in the death of Degamo),” he pointed out.
Degamo and eight other persons were killed when armed men entered his residence in Pamplona town, Negros Oriental last March 4. Seventeen other persons were injured.
Remulla said that so far, three counts of murder and frustrated murder have been filed before the regional trial court (RTC) in Tanjay City against four arrested suspects and 12 others over the killing of Degamo and eight other persons.
He said the Supreme Court (SC) has already granted his request to transfer the cases to the Manila RTC.
“Alam naman ng Korte Suprema na may problema po sa lugar kaya mas mabuti po na ipalagay na lang ho sa Metro Manila. Para dito kaya natin i-secure (The SC knows there is a problem in Negros Oriental that’s why it is better to transfer the case in Metro Manila. Here in Metro Manila we can have security),” he said.
