Symmetry – A new center for dance arts

"Our goal is to address the needs of the dance and art community by providing quality education that is equally grounded in tradition as it is in innovation,” says Venus Basas, Artistic Director of Symmetry Dance Studio.
Symmetry Dance Studio is the newest and most innovative center in dance. Located at the Penthouse Suite of Margarita Centre along Aguirre Street corner Elsie Gaches Street in BF Homes, Parañaque, the studio is an offshoot of a former dance studio within the same vicinity.
“We want to give the best facilities and provide a safe dance environment to our students so we decided to expand and step up into a more exciting experience in the incredible art of dance,” explains Venus. “Since our former studio has been there for quite some time, I believe that it’s high time to reinvent and get into a fresh start especially in the coming year,” she adds.
The students of Symmetry have many opportunities to excel in all forms of dance such as classical and contemporary ballet, modern jazz, funk jazz and lyrical jazz, bellydance, ballroom, hip-hop, cheerdance and pole dance. Everyone from 3 years of age through adult are welcome to join the variety of classes for all skill levels, beginner to pre-professional. Classes are kept to a minimum for the teachers to closely monitor the development of each student.
Symmetry’s faculty of teachers are well-trained and equipped with the best technique in their field of dance. Leading the pack is Artistic Director Venus Bases who is a former President of the Association of Ballet Academies Philippines (ABAP). She is also a former member of the Commonwealth Society of Dancing (CSTD), an Australian-based dance theatre society.
In her early years, Venus was a scholar at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dance School where she became an artist of Ballet Philippines. Venus also mastered jazz dancing and trained under the country’s best dance companies such as Powerdance, Hotlegs, Hamstrings and Adrenalin.
Aside from her annual training in dance classes in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Virginia, Venus has been a member (since 1998) and accredited syllabus teacher of the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet (ACB) which is based in Melbourne, Australia. She is proud to say that some of her students are consistent dinstinction awardees of the said institution for dance.
Symmetry’s teaching staff also include some of the distinguished names in the dance arena like Ramsey Cortista and Rolby Lacaba of Ballet Philippines, Nancy Crowe of Hotlegs, Ajie Mendelebar of the Philippine Gymastics Team, Crystal (one of the big names in local bellydancing), James Gaddi of the Manouvers and Ed Aniel, a pioneer in introducing pole dance in dance and fitness studios.
“Our greatest reward is watching our dancers grow and see them become more confident about themselves as dancers and as a person,” says Dawn Chang, a member of the Symmetry faculty who handles the ballet and jazz classes and a also a member of the Hotlegs.
Keeping in alignment with the artistic culture of every dance academy, Symmetry will also hold special events such as special shows and recitals throughout the school year and in summer to further hone the talent and potential of their students.
The exciting opportunities dancers will experience at Symmetry Dance Studio are endless. It will continue to grow with the industry and will ensure that each of its dancers dive into and enjoy the exciting world of dance.
